5th and 6th Class Book Reviews
This March and April, during School Closures due to the Pandemic of Covid-19, the pupils in 5th and 6th class have worked extremely hard at home.
The class have enjoyed spending quality time outdoors with their families in the beautiful weather and they have also been busy with their school work. One of the tasks they were asked to complete was ‘to write a book review of a book they have read over quarantine’.
The children kindly decided to share their reports, in hope that it would inspire others to get reading or encourage them to read their chosen book review novel.
The pupils included the following information in their reviews:
Title, Author, Illustrator, Publisher, Chapter and Page Numbers, Main Characters, Setting, Short Summaries, Personal thoughts and Opinions, Recommendations and Ratings.
Check out their wonderful book reports below.
Happy reading - We hope you enjoy!

A Starry Night
Vincent van Gogh painted one of the most famous paintings in history when he created The Starry Night. The painting uses a powerfully vibrant colour scheme, includes swirling stars and demonstrates a Post-Impressionist style.
The Artists of Rang 4 examined and discussed the painting together and noticed the techniques Van Gogh used to create his painting: bold brush strokes, swirling movements, thick layers of paint.
Next, the pupils put on their Artist Caps and recreated their own version of Van Goghs 'A Starry Night'.
Check out their incredible art pieces below!
Monster Science
The Scientists of Rang 4 were also busy learning all about ‘Air’ this year.
The pupils had great fun completing a range of experiments, investigating how air can lift and move objects. The pupils recorded their results in their Science journal (top secret of course!).
The pupils were set a challenge and worked in pairs to complete this task.
Each group were given the following objects: a plastic pocket, a scissors, variety of colored paper, colours and a cardboard shoebox.
The pupils had to create a monster and wait for it... “the monsters mouth must open through air compression!”
Just like that, off they went, designing and making a monster whose mouth opens through the compression of air.
Take a look at their end results, but be careful... Monster Science is not for the faint hearted!
The Normans & Medieval Castles
Rang 4 have been busy learning all about the Norman's and the Middle Ages in History this month. The pupils read all about the Norman's and the different jobs of those living and working in a Medieval Castle. They particularly enjoyed looking at the different features of a typical Medieval Castle.
The pupils worked in small groups, using the school laptops to research different Medieval Castles which exist in Ireland today, such as: The Dublin, Trim, Blarney and Bunratty Castle.
Check out their fantastic group work!
The pupils then had fun constructing Medieval Castles in their Visual Arts lesson. They used recycled material and paint to create these Middle Aged Castles.
Super work by a super class!
