1798 Rebellion in Rang 5 & Rang 6

Ireland in the 1700’s

In History Fifth and Sixth class learnt all about the American Revolution and the French Revolution. We looked at their causes and the effects they had on the rest of the world.

After this we looked at the effects of the French Revolution on Ireland, and the 1798 Rebellion in Ireland.

Our class then did projects on this Irish Revolution.

Here are some of the topics we covered:

  • Help from France

  • Wolf Tone

  • The Society of the United Irishmen

  • British ambush

  • The four main areas

  • The rising in Wexford

  • Boolavogue

  • The King in Wexford

We put a lot of hard work into these projects and presented them to the class.

Here is a peak at some of our work:

National Children's Choir

This year, 4th 5th and 6th class took part in the National Children’s Choir. After weeks of practice we travelled to Ravenswell School in Bray to sing in a concert with 3 other schools from Greystones and Bray.

Our conductor was Anne Purcell. Muinteoir Siobhán taught us all of the songs that we needed to learn. Thank you so much Múinteoir! We had great fun doing this and made lots of new friends. Here are some photos of the children while we were practising and performing our concert.

Mad About Magnets

Science - Magnetic Fields

Magnets.jpg

In April we learned about magnetism during our science lesson.

Magnetism is an invisible force that can make some things move towards each other. Here are some facts that we learned about magnets!

  1. Rocks were the first magnets.

  2. Every magnet has a space in which it exerts its force.

  3. This area or space is called the magnetic field.

  4. The size of the field depends on the size and strength of the magnet.

  5. Magnets have two poles.

  6. One side is called the North Pole and the other is called the South Pole.

  7. Same poles repel/push each other away.

  8. Opposite poles attract/pull towards each other.

We conducted an experiment with magnets and iron filings to show the magnetic field around mangets. Check out our results!

We really enjoyed learning about magnets and we found out that they’re very interesting and cool.

Luckily, the weather was nice despite being a little foggy and cold at the very top. We were tired after our walk but the Easter eggs we got at the end made it all worth while!

Revolution in 5th & 6th Class!

The French Revolution

5th and 6th Class studied all about the French Revolution in History. Then we created projects about the French Revolution.

The topics we covered were:

  • Napoleon Bonaparte

  • The French Flag

  • The Enlightenment

  • The Execution of King Louis XVI

  • The National Assembly

  • The Causes of Revolution

  • The Storming of The Bastille

Everyone was put into groups and we carried out extensive research on our topics. There was a lot of hard work put into these projects and it was very enjoyable to listen to when the students presented them to the class.

Here are some pictures of us doing our presentations.

Super Selfies!

Super Selfies!

5th and 6th class created self-portraits in Art. First, we divided the page into four separate areas. This made it easier to draw because it made lining up the eyes much easier. It also made lining up the nose and the mouth easier. This was our second attempt at our self- portraits. This second attempt was a lot better than our first attempt. We really enjoyed drawing these self-portraits. Take a look and see if you can recognise us!
