Welcome to the New School Year 2025–2026

A céad míle fáilte to all our new Junior Infants and their families! We are so excited to welcome you to the Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa family. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces on the first day back.

September is always a time of new beginnings at Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa, and this year was no different. We were thrilled to welcome our new Junior Infant class, who arrived full of excitement and ready for the adventure ahead.

It was also wonderful to see our returning pupils, from Senior Infants right through to Sixth Class, bounding back through the gates full of energy and stories from the summer.

We look forward to a wonderful year ahead for every child in our school community. A warm welcome to all our new families — you are now part of the Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa family, and we are delighted to have you with us.

Christmas Nativity & Winter Concert

Our school hall was packed to the rafters for this year’s Christmas Nativity and Winter Concert. The children sang beautifully, and the nativity play was simply magical. A wonderful community evening.

The Christmas season at Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa is always a special time, and this year’s Nativity and Winter Concert did not disappoint. Families filled every seat in the hall for an evening of song, performance, and festive joy.

Our youngest pupils stole the hearts of the audience in the Nativity play, while the older classes delivered stunning choral performances and instrumental pieces. The evening concluded with a whole-school rendition of Silent Night that left many in the audience reaching for a tissue.

Thank you to every family who joined us, and to the staff and children who worked so hard to make the evening so memorable. Nollaig Shona do chách!

Forest School: Winter Wildlife Discovery

Even in January, the Glendalough woodland is full of life! Our pupils discovered deer tracks, identified winter tree species by bark, and learned about hibernating insects. Nature has no off-season!

Our Forest School sessions continued through January with some of our most exciting outdoor learning yet. Wrapped up warm and full of curiosity, our pupils headed into the Glendalough woodland to discover what winter has to offer.

Highlights included finding fresh deer tracks in the soft ground near the treeline, identifying six different tree species by their bark and winter silhouette, and learning about which insects hibernate and where they shelter during the cold months.

Forest School reminds us that nature is always alive and always teaching — even in the depths of winter. A special thanks to our Forest School coordinator for making these sessions such a wonderful part of school life.

Drámaíocht 2025 — An Evening to Remember

What a fantastic night at this year’s Drámaíocht festival! Our children performed with tremendous confidence and creativity. A huge thank you to all the families who came to support.

This year’s Drámaíocht performances showcased the incredible talent and confidence of our pupils. From Junior Infants to Sixth Class, every child brought energy, creativity, and heart to the stage.

The performances included original drama pieces, music, and Irish language song — all developed by the children themselves with guidance from their class teachers. The hall was full to capacity and the atmosphere was electric.

A sincere thank you to all the families who came to cheer on the children, and to our staff whose dedication made the evening possible. We are already looking forward to next year!

Green Flag Programme — Spring Update

Our Green School committee has been busy this term with a biodiversity audit of the school grounds. Children have identified 14 native plant species and are planning a new wildflower garden for summer.

The Green School committee — made up of enthusiastic pupils from every class — carried out a full biodiversity audit of our school grounds this term. They identified 14 native plant species already growing on the site, from common dock and dandelion to less common species like wood sorrel and hart’s tongue fern.

Inspired by their findings, the committee has drawn up plans for a new wildflower garden to be planted before the end of the school year. The garden will provide habitat for pollinators and give our younger classes an outdoor space for nature study.

A huge congratulations to our Green School committee and their teacher coordinators for their dedication to our environmental programme.

New School Extension — Construction Update

Work continues on our exciting new school extension. The project will deliver two additional classrooms and improved facilities for all our pupils.

We are delighted to report that construction is progressing well and on schedule. The new building will include two bright, modern classrooms designed with the needs of our pupils in mind, along with improved storage and support facilities.

We are grateful for the patience and understanding of all our families during the construction works. The school office will keep parents updated with any changes to access or drop-off arrangements as works progress.

We look forward to welcoming everyone into the new facilities when they are complete.
