Student Council

The Student Council gives every child a real voice in the life of our school. It is democracy in action.

Children Leading Change

The Student Council at Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa is made up of elected representatives from 3rd to 6th Class. Each class votes for its representative at the start of the year, and the council meets regularly throughout the year to discuss issues and ideas that matter to pupils.

The council is guided by a staff supervisor but is driven by the children’s own priorities. Past projects have included improving the school yard, organising fundraising events, planning the school garden and developing the school’s Code of Behaviour.

Democratic Elections

Representatives are elected by their classmates at the start of each school year through a secret ballot.

Regular Meetings

The council meets regularly with a staff supervisor to discuss proposals, plan projects and report back to classes.

Real Impact

Council proposals are taken seriously by school management. Children see real change from their ideas and efforts.

Leadership Skills

Membership develops public speaking, listening, negotiation and leadership skills that benefit children for life.
